Chaffey's SSSSS
In a highly digitised world, new ideas and strategies in your digital marketing business can be a form of keeping up with the tide, but how do you know if you're doing right? According to Dave Chaffey, the 5 S's of digital marketing is a simple way to help you touch base with all elements of digital marketing and not just sales.
The 5 S' s are Sell, Serve, Speak, Save and Sizzle- simple right? I'm going to show step by step how an online fashion brand manages to ticks off all the 5 S's in digital marketing.
Sell is all about growing your sales, so what are you doing to boost your sales? do you offer a discount for your first online purchase? maybe free delivery over a certain amount like below? Any
Serve, as the popular saying goes "customers are king", so its important to know the needs and requirements of your customers and serve them accordingly (Gola, 2019). You need to be adding value and extra benefits to not only their online journey but also their purchases. For example, Monki prides is self on their Cares, Thinks and Loves, here you see a community building the Monki brand, ways to upcycle or recycle your old clothes, fashion trends and even supporting female empowerment through music and art.
Speak is all about getting closer to your customers, creating that two-way dialogue through conversation marketing such as live chats or web interactions, this way you can not only respond but also learn more about what problems people may be facing and how to rectify them. You can see below Monki has incorporated questions around sizing which can be a barrier in purchasing being able to talk to the customer directly means you can push past this barrier and get to the sales.
Save is the fourth S- what are you Saving are you making whilst being online? Although Monki does have physical shops the reach is nothing when you think about Monki online markets that spam across 20 markets in Europe and Asia. You can also show the value you gain through using online service costs ie FAQ and service transactions, this way if you're fighting for budget online you can demonstrate the savings you've made (Chaffey, 18)
Sizzle, the final and most fun out of all the S's, here we look at what's putting the sizzle in your sausage? how are you building your brand online that's positive and engaging? Monki is all about empowerment of women, using ethically sourced clothing and the brand resonates with female strength- it comes with no surprise then when they invest heavily in community platforms and social media they don't do it in half measures...
